Paul's Sport Fishing Video Experience:
Shark Filming Experience: "I have been on the water all my life and have gotten lucky enough to combine both my passions of filming and fishing. Hopefully we can work together someday and catch the big one together. Please read further about my Shark Filming experience. Thank you." Paul Skomal
Paul's Shark Filming Experience includes, ESPN 2005/2006 Monster Shark tournament/4 part series. This Docu drama on Shark fishing is staged on the island of Martha's Vineyard, MA every year. It includes duties from filming all the hook-up's and releases of every shark to the producing commentary and interviews to be used in each of the 4 segments. Very long days in the most unpredictable environment. He has managed to emerge with great footage that has been used in all 4 episodes each year.
Paul's work also includes the 2007 Spike Channels coverage of the monster shark tournament done in HD. Here he landed on the winning boat the "Provider"- catching awesome footage of the winning fish, a 300 plus pound thresher shark. His amazing footage shows the shark tearing the boat apart while being brought aboard.
This was primarily shot with a Cine Alta. All secondary shots where shot on a Sony Z1U getting high cutaways and underwater perspectives. All three of these series where filmed during extreme weather. They had some really bad luck in 2005 and had a tropical storm hit the tournament with gale force winds. The preceding years both ended up with 25 mph plus winds with only a small portion of captains willing to take out their boats. Lucky for Paul, he came home safe with usable video and audio and a great day of fishing.
